Why Low Voltage Systems Need a Maintenance Plan

July 22, 2026 4 min read

Security systems fail quietly. A twice-yearly check keeps failures from being discovered on the day you need footage.

The silent failures

A dead hard drive, an offline camera, a panel battery at end of life and a spider web across a lens all produce the same symptom: nothing. No one notices until footage is requested and it does not exist.

What a visit covers

Recorder health and retention verification, camera-by-camera image review, lens and housing cleaning, alarm walk-test, battery load test, firmware and credential audit, and a written report of what changed since the last visit.

Documentation is part of the service

Every site should have a current as-built: what is installed, where it is, how it is addressed and who has access. When something breaks at 6 a.m., that document is the difference between a phone fix and a half-day of tracing cable.
